The Liturgical Year
Presenter: Christopher Ferraro, MA
This workshop will explore the theology of Christian festive celebrations by studying the Roman Missal, the Lectionary, various church documents and the historical development of the festive cycles and their meaning for Christian worship today. Among the topics to be considered will be the theology of festival and feast in Christian spirituality; the central place of Sunday in Christian worships; Easter, Holy Week and Lent; Advent, Christmas and Epiphany; and the Sanctoral Cycle and Holy Days. A particular emphasis will be placed on the role of music in the liturgical year.
The Liturgy Documents
Presenter: Msgr. Joseph DeGrocco, D. Min.
The documents of the Second Vatican Council did not come all of a sudden. They were the product of more than a century of theological thought and papal documents that began to reform and reshape our ecclesiology. This workshop will explore three documents: The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, the General Instruction of the Roman Missal and Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship. The role of music in these documents will be emphasized.
CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENTS WITH CHILDREN: FROM LITURGY, THROUGH CATECHESIS, TO THE WORLD

This workshop will explore how to prepare children and their parents or responsible guardians to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist. Since the rule or way of praying (Lex ordandi), expresses and forms our way of believing (Lex credendi) to impact our way of living (Lex vivendi), the Rites of these Sacraments will the lens through which we develop models of catechesis that prepare our children to celebrate fully, actively and consciously. Which comes first, the preparation or the celebration? We’ll see that both are intimately connected and must inform one another from preparation through celebration and into life.
